The business's name is a mixture of the initial name, A.L.F.A. (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) and the last name of businessman Nicola Romeo, who got control of the company in 1915.Foundation and early on yearsA 1908 Darracq 8/10 Horsepower constructed by Alfa Romeo's predecessor, Darracq ItalianaThe A.L.F.A 24 hp (this is with Castagna torpedo body) was the first car made by Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili (A.L.F.A) in 1910.The company that became Alfa Romeo was founded as Societ? Anonima Italiana Darracq (SAID) in 1906 by the French automobile firm of Alexandre Darracq, with some Italian investors. One of them, Cavaliere Ugo Stella, an aristocrat from Milan, became chairman of the SAID in 1909.[6] The firm's preliminary location was in Naples, but even before the development of the designed manufacturing plant had started, Darracq decided past due in 1906 that Milan would become more suitable and consequently a tract of land was bought in the Milan suburb of Portello, in which a new stock of 6,700 square metres (8,000 sq yd) was erected. 1909 late, the Italian Darracq cars were reselling and Stella slowly and gradually, with the other Italian co-investors, founded a fresh company known as A.L.F.A. (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili), first still together with Darracq. The first non-Darracq car produced by the ongoing company was the 1910 24 HP, designed by Giuseppe Merosi, hired in 1909 for designing new cars more suited to the Italian market. Merosi would continue to design some new A.L.F.A. cars, with an increase of powerful motors (40-60 HP). A.L.F.A. ventured into engine racing, with motorists Ronzoni and Franchini rivalling in the 1911 Targa Florio with two 24-hp models. In 1914, an advanced Grand Prix car was designed and built, the GP1914, with a four-cylinder engine, double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, and twin ignition.[7] However, the starting point of the First World Conflict halted automobile production at A.L.F.A. for 3 years. In 1915 August, the company came under the path of Neapolitan business owner Nicola Romeo, who turned the manufacturing plant to create armed forces hardware for the Allied and Italian war attempts. Munitions, aircraft engines and other components, compressors, and generators based on the business's existing car engines were produced in a vastly enlarged factory through the war. After the pugilative war, Romeo invested his war revenue in acquiring locomotive and railway carriage vegetation in Saronno (Costruzioni Meccaniche di Saronno), Rome (Officine Meccaniche di Roma), and Naples (Officine Ferroviarie Meridionali), that have been put into his A.L.F.A. possession.Car production was not considered initially, but resumed in 1919 since parts for the completion of 105 vehicles had continued to be at the A.L.F.A. stock since 1915.[6] In 1920, the name of the company was altered to Alfa Romeo with the Torpedo 20-30 HP the first car to be so badged.[9] Their first success came up in 1920 when Giuseppe Campari earned at Mugello and persisted with second place in the Targa Florio driven by Enzo Ferrari. Giuseppe Merosi continued as head custom made, and the company continued to create solid road cars as well as successful race cars (like the 40-60 HP and the RL Targa Florio)In 1923 Vittorio Jano was lured from Fiat, partly because of the persuasion of a young Alfa racing driver named Enzo Ferrari, to displace Merosi as main custom at Alfa Romeo. The first Alfa Romeo under Jano was the P2 Grand Prix car, which gained Alfa Romeo the inaugural world championship for Grand Prix automobiles in 1925. For road automobiles Jano developed some small-to-medium-displacement 4-, 6-, and 8-cylinder inline machines predicated on the P2 product that set up the structures of the company's motors, with light alloy engineering, hemispherical combustion chambers, centrally located plugs, two rows of over head valves per cylinder loan company and dual over head cams. Jano's designs proved both reliable and powerful.Enzo Ferrari proven a much better team supervisor than driver, so when the factory team was privatised, it became Scuderia Ferrari. When Ferrari remaining Alfa Romeo, he continued to generate his own automobiles. Tazio Nuvolari often drove for Alfa, winning many races before the Second World War.In 1928 Nicola Romeo left, and in 1933 Alfa Romeo was rescued by the nationwide administration, which then had effective control. Alfa Romeo became an instrument of Mussolini's Italy, a national emblem.
